About Us

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), a parastatal supervised by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, came into existence on 1st January 1985, as a Department in the Ministry by virtue of Decree Number 18 of 1987. The organization became a full-fledged parastatal by virtue of Decree No 4 of 1992 (now CAP N127 LFN 2004) inter alia to:

  1. Develop, promote, and provide adequate and efficient, coordinated, and economic postal services at fair and reasonable rates and fees.
  2. Maintain an efficient system of collection, sorting, and delivery of mail nationwide.
  3. Provide various types of mail services to meet the needs of different categories of mail users.
  4. Establish and maintain postal facilities/structures that are strategically located and designed to be cost-effective, enabling the general public to have access to essential postal services.
  5. License, regulate and supervise courier and logistics service operators throughout Nigeria, including the prescription of standards for service delivery, the setting of fees and tariffs, the conduct of compliance inspections, and the enforcement of the Courier and Logistics Services (CLS) Operations Regulations 2020 made pursuant to the Act — with a view to ensuring the provision of efficient, reliable, safe and competitive courier and logistics services to businesses and individuals across the country.
